Welcome to the Richard Hale Association

The Richard Hale Association is an international association of former pupils and staff of Richard Hale (formerly Hertford Grammar) School, Hertford, Herts, England.

The Association's aims are to maintain a bond between former members of the School and between them and the School. It does this in a variety of ways, from arranging formal and informal gatherings of Old Boys (and in many cases their families), at the clubhouse and in Hertford, in different parts of the UK and in different parts of the world, to producing an annual magazine for Association members, giving news of Old Boys and the School, and of events past and present, and to come.

Fundraising scores at Richard Hale

Pupils and teachers at Richard Hale raised nearly £6,000 in a penalty shout-out competition against Watford Football Club coaches.

Pupils from the School each had five shots against six junior coaches from Watford FC’s community sports and education trust.

Present pupils were cheered on by Old Hertfordian Chez Isaac who is a current Watford FC player.

The competition was organised by the School’s Development Office, which is being funded by the Richard Hale Association. Funds raised from the competition have been shared between Watford’s community sports and education trust and the School.

Richard Hale’s share of proceeds will pay for new football goals to be erected and the balance will be  allocated to the Richard hale Charitable Trust, a new charity established by the Richard Hale Association to support the School in the build up to the 400th anniversary of the School’s foundation in 2017.

In another version of his tale about the shooting in 1820 of Thomas Dobinson, the Master’s son, Mr W F Andrews disregards he earlier assertion that the gun was fired by a lad who was carrying out some repairs in the schoolroom, and settles instead for a mad relative who appeared in the doorway.
